Our trip to Cyprus 2022

 March 6th — March 10th

Paul, whom we had met through Compassionate Pals, put out through the group that he had booked an Airbnb in Cyprus and afterwards he had realised that the apartment had a second bedroom and he asked if anybody would like to join him. Lynda and I had never been to a Mediterranean country before so we decided to take him up on his offer (a big thank you to Paul). We managed to book flights on the same flights as Paul had booked which would make it easier for getting from Larnaca to Latchi, a distance of just over 100 miles. The return flight was originally booked for the 11th but the airline changed it so we had 1 day less.

We stayed in Larnaca for the 1st night and the hotel was right on the coast line.

We had an enjoyable 4 days in Cyprus and the weather was quite good for us, just one iffy day. It was very quiet not only because it was out of season but no Russians were travelling because of the war.

Paul knew Cyprus very well and he was able to explain things to us. A lot of Cypriots, when they are starting out as a couple, will have a single story house built with a flat roof and rebars sticking out so that a second story can be added as the family grows. Also most houses have a water tank, painted white, on their roofs so that the sun heats the water up for them. The photograph of the house being renovated shows this. Also in the Agios Georgios Church that we visited, a lot of the wall art work uses 2 mediums, a photo or photos being overlayed with either embossed metal or mosaic tile work.
